Adrian Bates at

AVA GALLERY

Adrian first became interested in working with clay after doing an evening class back in 2000. Before this he had worked in graphics for 20 years and had become disenchanted with the lack of self expression and creative freedom this involved.

After suffering from CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) for five years, he returned to work teaching physics and remedial maths. However, when a vacancy arose for a Craft Tutor Adrian leapt at the chance. He taught woodwork, copper beating, silver smithing, and lots of pottery. After five brilliant years teaching, Adrian realised his dream to become a full timer maker and hasn't looked back. He still enjoys teaching and runs several courses throughout the year.
