  • ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPH

Premgit took this picture during the Ganga Puja festival one cold January morning. The people on the right are local farmers who come to the ghat for 24 hours to receive blessings for plentiful crops in the year to come. On the left the pilgrims who have purified themselves by bathing in the Ganges are giving dry grains of rice to the farmers. Each grain represents a blessing and there is fierce competition to get as many grains as possible.

Silver gelatin print on Fomabrom baryta double-weight fibre-based paper.

    35mm negative taken with a Leica M6 and 35mm F1.4 leitz lens.
